Wake Up 30 Minutes Earlier and See God Work!
TESTIMONY: September 28, 2022
This is my devotion corner. Every morning, I wake up 30 minutes earlier than I need to so that I can have my quiet time with God. Thirty minutes earlier for me means that my alarm rings at 3:45 a.m. Woof.
Before I was on the morning show, I was in the pattern of waking up 30 minutes before my alarm at around 6:15 a.m. to have my quiet time, and I was on a roll! It felt so good starting my day off in the Word without any distractions. But when my schedule bumped up several hours earlier, and I needed to be out the door when it was still dark out, I stopped setting the alarm back. I was focused on getting as much sleep as possible. I figured, "Eh, I'll do my devotions and read my Bible later today." Well, I'd get home, and the chaos of life would happen. And a nap would happen. And TV would happen. Then, dinner would happen. Then, it was time for bed, and I was too tired to do it. "I'll do it tomorrow," I'd say. And sometimes I would, but sometimes I wouldn't.
I found on the days that I wasn't starting my day off with quiet time that I was more cranky, I was more sleepy, and my day just overall felt BLAH. There were so many times I could feel God talking to me and telling me what it was I needed to do -- wake up 30 minutes earlier, girl! I had to start my day off with quiet time in His Word. When I did it, I immediately felt the shift. I felt my attitude change that day. In fact, I felt myself feeling more energized despite the lack of sleep (!!!).
I say all this to encourage you to wake up 30 minutes earlier and dig into His Word, because 1. It's the best way you can start your day. There's no right or wrong time to read your Bible, but doesn't He deserve that top priority? and 2. It's usually the one time of the day where you're completely alone and can give God your undivided attention, since other people in your house are still sleeping, or in my case, my pug is sleeping and not grabbing my attention every five seconds.
Try it and see God work! Trust me. He will bless an obedient servant.
Joshua 1:8 -- "The Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success."
Proverbs 2:3-5 -- "Yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God."
Revelation 1:3 -- "Blessed is he who reads, and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and who keep the things written in it, for the time is near."
